Jeep plans to unveil the redesigned 2021 Grand Cherokee Thursday, including a three-row version for the first time. Production will begin in the first quarter at a new assembly plant created from a former engine factory in Detroit. Jeep confirmed the reveal date and the use of the Grand Cherokee name in an email to customers this week, saying, “The most awarded SUV ever is adding something new to the adventure — a third row.”
“The roomier Grand Cherokee is part of a larger product offensive that will help diversify the Jeep brand’s portfolio in 2021 as FCA moves ahead with its merger with France’s PSA Group to form a larger automaker called Stellantis.”

Subaru Recalls Legacy & Outback
Subaru is recalling approximately 7,741 2020 Legacy and Outback vehicles equipped with “high” grade and “mid” grade multimedia navigation. An August 2020 over-the-air software update may have timed out without completing the installation, corrupting the data, and causing issues with the rearview display, the automaker said. The rearview display will periodically shutoff due to the error.

U.S. Traffic Deaths Down in 2019
U.S. traffic deaths decreased nationwide in 2019 with a fatality rate the lowest it’s been since 2014, according to annual data released from NHTSA’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System. Fatality related crashes dropped 2% compared to 2018, even as travel rose approximately 0.8%. Alcohol related fatalities also decreased to the lowest levels since 1982.
NHTSA also released a supplementary report supporting it estimates for 2020 traffic fatalities and the role that COVID-19 and stay-at-home orders played. “While the number of traffic fatalities during April-June are projected to decrease, there is a projected increase in the proportion of fatalities in rural areas, among people ages 16 to 24, with risky drivers, in rollovers and ejections, and among occupants of vehicles 10 years old or older. However, traffic deaths among older people are expected to decrease in 2020 because they may have stayed home during the pandemic.” Expectations suggest that travel patterns were greatly altered by the pandemic, in turn impacting fatality rates.

Texas Temporary Waiver of Vehicle Title & Registration to Expire
The temporary waiver of certain vehicle title and registration requirements, announced by Governor Greg Abbott on March 16, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will end on April 14, 2021. If you have not renewed your expired vehicle registration, you should make plans to renew by that date. It is not necessary to wait until the deadline to complete any overdue transactions as motorists have several renewal options. Three ways to renew your vehicle registration:
1. Online: Visit www.TxDMV.gov/register or www.Texas.gov. This is the quickest and least expensive way to renew. Save $1 if you renew online. Online renewal is available up to nine months past your registration expiration date.
2. Mail: Return the bottom portion of your registration renewal form, payment and other required information to your county tax assessor-collector.
3. In Person: Visit the office of your county tax assessor-collector. In many counties, in-person renewal is also available at other locations, such as certain grocery stores. Contact your county tax office to check hours and locations. Reminder: Before renewing registration, Texans will need to obtain a passing vehicle inspection at the state vehicle inspection station of their choice, unless their vehicle is exempt from inspection requirements.
The expiring temporary waiver covers the following services:
• Initial vehicle registration.
• Vehicle registration renewal.
• Vehicle titling.
• Renewal of permanent disabled parking placards.
• 30-day temporary permits.
